Shetland wool is strong and warm and especially prized for it's use in Fair Isle, a type of colorwork knitting named for Fair Isle where it was developed in the southern Shetland Islands. For nearly 100 years, Jamieson & Smith has been staffed by locals and sourcing wool from local crofters and farmers. Today they purchase fleece from over 700 local farms and pride themselves on keeping profits in the local economy. All wool used is raised on Shetland, hand sorted and graded by Shetlanders, and then spun in the mainland UK.
